Summary: Charlotte's Web is great children's story full of many life lessons. The story starts with an eight year old girl, Fern Arable asking, "Where's Papa going with that ax?" She finds out that during the night pigs were born and one was a runt. Her father intended to "do away with it" because it would never survive anyway. She persuades her father to let her keep the runt. She names him Wilber and raises him for a few weeks and then sells him to her uncle for $6. When Wilber arrives at Zuckerman's farm he is lonely without Fern when she is not visiting. He becomes friends with a spider in the barn named Charlotte. When Wilber finds out the farmer intends on killing him in the fall he becomes hysterical. Charlotte promises to not let that happen. She decides to spin words in her web: some pig, terrific, radiant, and humble. Wilber becomes famous because of the "miracle of the web". Mr. Zuckerman takes Wilber to the county fair where he wins a special prize because he is "some pig". Wilber is now safe because he is a famous pig. After spinning her final web, Charlotte builds an egg sack for her children and is too weak to return to the farm. Wilber takes the egg sack home with him and cares for it until the spiders are born.
